🌏 A New Global Movement is Rising

First, I want to thank you for being part of the fight against fascism and climate chaos. From my prison cell, I can’t tell you just how much it means to know we are in this together.

I was given a five-year prison sentence last July for making a speech on a Zoom call, asking people to engage in civil disobedience on climate issues. This is the longest sentence for any nonviolent campaigner in recent UK history. I was singled out for taking a leadership role in our movement, to be punished and serve as a deterrent.

But people like you were not deterred

In fact, there has been a massive backfire, with over 1,000 people sitting in the roads outside the Royal Court of in-Justice during the recent appeal hearing. More than 1,200 public figures signed an open letter condemning the madness. Even the UN got involved, saying that, in the context of the climate emergency, the sentences are "incomprehensible."

And there’s more good news

Even if I lose the appeal, I should be out in June, due to sentence reductions due to prison overcrowding. While inside, I have written 2 books, read 60 and advised movements around the world. 

Another piece of good news is that, in response to passing 1.5C and the disastrous election of Trump, there is now a new willingness for progressive groups and campaigns to work together, both within countries and internationally. We are all too aware that time is limited, and without mass collective action, the future will be fascist. The world is crying out for an alternative story. One where ordinary people come together to create street movements, take power through people’s assemblies, and force systemic change as coming chaos undermines existing regimes and toxic structures.

A new global movement is born

We are part of a new global mobilization - networks engaged in coordinated international events - protests, marches, assemblies, training, and cultural activities to consolidate a new consciousness of our collective strength: our people power.

We are already working with movements and groups that collectively have over 300,000 people on their databases, along with the world’s top social movement organizers in the US, UK, Germany, Serbia, and Italy. 

And this is just the beginning.

I have built a small team to help take the process forward. We have already raised £50,000 but more is needed. I am now writing to all my supporters to ask if you can give a monthly donation to this vital work so we can reach our target of £100,000. Volunteers supporting me have even produced several books that you get as a thank you gift.

A recent British Insurance Industry report predicted we are facing 4 billion deaths during the middle decades of this century due to the appalling failure of governments to slash emissions. There are no words to describe this level of injustice and suffering. 

This is what we face. This is why we fight.
