📕 Coming in January: “Suicide”, a book about truth, law, and mass death

The reality we’ve been avoiding is still here, but now I've focused my mind on dissecting it. The result is my new book, Suicide: The Political and Legal Implications of Creating Endless Mass Death, which will be released on 28 January.

This book was written from a prison cell and features a foreword by one of my visitors, the Pulitzer Prize winner Chris Hedges.

In July 2024, I was dragged from a British courtroom for refusing to stay silent about the climate crisis. For conspiracy to cause a public nuisance, I was sentenced to five years in prison — the harshest sentence ever given in the UK for nonviolent civil disobedience. The case made headlines and drew international condemnation.

This book is, in part, a response to that moment.

Part conventional memoir, part manifesto, it’s an attempt to think clearly and honestly about what it means when a society knowingly creates mass death, and then uses its legal and political systems to punish those who tell the truth about it.

Drawing on court cases, climate science, political theory, and lived experience inside the British legal system, the book examines the moral and legal failures of a society sleepwalking into catastrophe. It asks what happens when “law and order” become tools for denial, and when justice is turned against those trying to prevent harm.

In the age of climate collapse, telling the truth has increasingly been treated as a criminal act. This book looks directly at that reality.
