Assembly-Based Mobilisation: Global Briefing to Overcome Fascism

We all sense things are coming to a head. Time is short.

In that spirit of urgency, a group of organisations are coming together to hold an international call on how we need to organise and mobilise in the coming years. The far right is gaining ground and is poised to seize state power as social and economic tensions intensify. Next year, global temperatures will most likely reach 1.7°C. Big tech and AI will create millions of job losses. War and geopolitical pressure will spread. Our working communities are going to come under ever greater strain.

In response, we need to learn from the assembly-based projects and movements emerging worldwide. How people are doing the three key interconnected things we all need to do: serious scaled mutual aid, local and national campaigns that lead to civil resistance, and standing as assembly-chosen candidates in elections to take control of councils and then governments.

This call will look at concrete models of mobilisation — postering, doorknocking, cultural events that lead into assemblies and collective action, and how these methods build mass movements and movement parties. In doing so we move beyond the tired split between horizontal and vertical organisation, and the false binary between society and the state. It is all one system. We have to take control of all of it.

This session is not a one-off. It will be followed by two further introductory sessions: one on how to run assemblies, one on running assembly-based election campaigns. These will lead into an international conference in September, alongside a major fundraiser to fund full-time organisers and trainers — building evolving templates on how to do this and supporting new projects around the world.

This is the foundation of a new international network and movement. As we connect with others who share this vision, we will work together and learn from each other. That is the direction of travel.

If you have expressed an interest in this work, this event is for you. If you cannot make the date, let us know, and we will keep you informed about future sessions. And most importantly — please share this with a few people who would be interested, and put it on your own and your networks' social media.

See you there.
